Health Care Center for the Homeless, Inc. (HCCH) operates an on-site pharmacy in two of our health centers – our main Orange Blossom Family Health location on Orange Blossom Trail and our location at the intersection of Ivey Lane and Old Winter Garden Road.
Our pharmacy serves our patients seen by a provider within our health centers and provides low-cost medications in a convenient setting. We do ask for low co-pays for the prescription medications provided through our pharmacy, but we do not allow this to become a barrier to service. While many retail pharmacies offer low co-pays for medications, HCCH recognizes that many of our patients lack the regular transportation that would make travelling elsewhere a potentially cost prohibitive choice.
HCCH also maintains a Patient Assistance Program (PAP) which helps our patients who qualify obtain free medications through the major pharmaceutical companies. Our PAP coordinator currently works with over 2000 patients, assisting them in obtaining an initial three-month supply of their medications and helping to manage their refills as needed. This program accessed millions of dollars in free medications since its inception. Without this program, these costs would have been absorbed by either HCCH or the patient with the possibility they may not have received a needed medication.
